Maximise your forehand with these 8 practise drills.
Here is a lesson with an advanced tennis player where we are trying to maximise his strength. The lesson involved 7 different drills to achieve this:
Drill 1: Accelerate from the service line - Focus on getting low by having a good knee bend.
Drill 2: Focus on leg drive - Use your knee bend to explode up into the shot.
Drill 3: Carry the back leg through - Hit off a neutral stance and land on your back leg to get good weight of shot.
Drill 4: Punish the Backhand (weakness) - Hit into your opponents weaker side to allow you more opportunities to use your strength.
Drill 5: Angled forehand - Again, set up the point, but this time, by opening the court with an angled forehand. Take off the pace on the ball and add plenty of spin.
Drill 6: Take it on the rise - Take the ball early before it reaches the peak of its bounce to hit heavier forehands and take time away from your opponent.
Drill 7: Racket head speed - Accelerate your swing through contact fast as you physically can.
Drill 8: Abbreviated backswing - Shorten the backswing in order to deal with quicker balls and maintain an offensive court position.
Try these drills out guys and let us know in the comments section how you get on!
